Cutting an Octagon
A quick shop hack from one of our builds. Five steps, and you can do this.

1. Start with the board: a 1.5 in edge-glued pine panel.
2. Rout a circle with a trammel jig. Set the trammel from the center to a corner, not to a flat. For 24 in across the flats, that is 12.99 in.
3. Mark eight points around the circle, 45 degrees apart.
4. Clamp a track or straightedge between two marks and cut each flat with a track saw. Go slow on 1.5 in stock.
5. Finished octagon: 24 in across the flats, sides 9.94 in.
